Hike at Heuston Woods State Park

It was a beautiful spring day so I decided to take the daughter for a hike. Last year I still had to backpack her if I wanted to take a hike somewhere. This year she is getting bigger and can walk longer. She has so much energy she needs to run it off! We went to Heuston Woods State Park.

She ran ahead most of the time! We took the Big Woods trail. The woods are made up of  old maple and beech trees.
There she goes again, still running.

May apples covered the ground in places

Trillium  is my favorite spring wildflower. It is illegal in some states to pick it because it seriously damages the plant and will not flower the next year.

Toad Trillium. It only grows in woods that have never been cleared.

This one is called Spring Beauty. The tuber it grows from is edible, kinda like a potato.

These are Dutchmans Breeches

 Beech trees

We found this snail

Yellow Trout Lily

She said she needed a walking stick but i don't know why, she didn't do any walking!
